Your car's computer uses data from the engine and the climate to notify you when the optimal time is to perform maintenance. Your vehicle's Maintenance Minder will notify you when to change the certain fluids and when to perform other tasks. If you purchase the parts do not be frugal, especially on the belt and water pump. It also includes the water pump, tensioner, pulleys, and assortment of other parts. It's not just the belt, which is cheap, that has to be changed. Thus, I would recommend purchasing all the parts. If you're going to go to an independent shop, it's not a very difficult process but it is time intensive. The dealer cost of $2,000.00 does seem very high. I lost a car due to not changing the belt at 5,000 miles over the recommendation. I will NEVER understand why Honda spent so much money engineer/designing the J35 with a belt as opposed to a chain. The belt is rubber and heat and stress obviously causes wear. Others live by what the owner's manual states. You will have people argue that changing the belt at 105,000 is too soon. I've also seen belts changed at 105,000 miles that began fraying. Personally, I know of J35's going as far as 200,000 miles without the belt being changed and it still looked fine. It should have been done at 105,000 miles according to your car manual.
